Morley Student Publishes Memoir

We are excited to announce that one of our long-standing students, Dr Abby J Waterman, has now published her memoirs, entitled Woman in a White Coat.

Woman in a White Coat

Born to Orthodox Jewish parents in London’s East End, Abby’s memoir retells her experiences of living through the Great Depression, the Second World War, and the Blitz, before following a career that sees her work as a Harley Street dentist, a doctor, an entrepreneur, a consultant pathologist, and director of a cancer research laboratory, as well as a mother of four.

Now retired, Abby has studied a diverse range of subjects with Morley over the last ten years, from Machine Knitting and Piano to Photoshop and Logic Pro.

“Since retiring in 1991, I have taken a wide variety of Further Education courses at Morley College including drawing and painting, Spanish, dressmaking, art history, machine knitting, music technology, piano playing, cooking, creative and memoir writing,” Abby says. “I now have a wardrobe that will probably never wear out; I can speak passable Spanish, and knock up a three course meal at fairly short notice. And last winter I published my 114-thousand-word memoir, Woman in a White Coat.

“Being an 86-year-old, having classes to attend gets me out of bed and out of the house and keeps my mind active. Thank goodness for funding and thank you, Morley College.”

Woman in a White Coat is available to buy now, in paperback or on Kindle, from Amazon. You can also meet Abby and discuss her memoirs with her on Tuesday 27 March, by joining the Pimlico Book Club for their meeting at 6pm in Pimlico Library, Lupus Street, London SW1V 3AT. You can also visit Abby’s blog at http://abbyjw.com.
