Morley College London offers high-quality craft adult education, with a wide range of courses in contemporary and traditional craft skills. As part of London Craft Week , we have a Penny Lecture on Friday 13th May and we will be running workshops and a tour of our facilities in the Waterloo Centre on Sunday 15th May.

How to make a Simple Leather Card Holder

Leather making is a fun skill to learn either by getting to grips with the basics or mastering your own style over time. In this 4-hour workshop I will show you how to make a simple leather card holder with just a few tools and some beginners’ techniques to take home for yourself, and if you’re quick you may have time to make a second for a loved one too.
I will teach you how to make a simple 2D pattern in paper and use this to cut out the leather for the final piece. You will have two options of stitching either using a machine stitch or hand stitching technique. To finish off the piece we will be using traditional edge dye for edges or a burnishing technique using beeswax. 
The workshop is for beginners, but people with a basic knowledge of leather making are also welcome as I can help to improve your techniques.

Tree of life Pendant Workshop

Create an intricate Tree of Life pendant from wire & gemstone beads.
Learn how to wrap wire and to incorporate beads to create a beaded tree pendant
Suitable for all levels, materials will be provided.

Try Dry point

Explore drypoint printmaking and draw like Rembrandt. Bring your own ideas for images or work from Rembrandt prints to learn how he layered crosshatched marks to achieve such an amazing range of tones. Print at different stages to see how it is possible to build the image up in layers.

Calligraphy: Making Your Own Letters

Learn the use of calligraphy tools and techniques in letter design through the centuries. The workshop will demonstrate the principles behind various historical letter forms and gives you an opportunity to try out calligraphy.

Wire sculpture workshop

Come and explore working with wire in both 2D and 3D. In this course, you will learn about the properties of different types of wires and ways to create artworks with them. You will learn to control wire including bending and joining and go home with one or two small pieces. No equipment or experience is required.

‘CLAYMATION’ – The Craft of Stop-Motion Film Making

This fun workshop introduces you to the use of modelling clay, hand drawing, computers, DSLR cameras and lighting to create stop-motion animated sequences that will delight and impress!
Practice the principles of planning and creating movement and give your models personality and character. Use lighting to enhance mood and practice simple camera techniques to capture movements, and then make a short stop-motion sequence that will bring your models of animals and characters to life!
This is a most magical form of animation, and far from dead, it is becoming increasingly popular! By the end of the course, you will have learned the skills to practice making your very own movies at home.

Slab Building/Texture Workshop

A pottery taster session exploring slab work with surface texture and slip decoration. The emphasis will be on experimenting with technique rather than finished work. One piece each will be selected for firing.
