What you will learn

An opportunity to explore traditional and contemporary felt making practices using a variety of techniques, to develop skills in creating patterns and texture, and blending coloured wools, to produce 2D felt and 3D forms in felt.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Explore culturally diverse felt making practices
Learn how to use merino wool to make felt
Create 2D and 3D felt
Make seamless felt using templates and forms
Create patterns using mosaic and inlay techniques

Class format and activities

Students will learn through observing tutor demonstration followed by practical experience supported by technical handouts. There will be an emphasis on sharing knowledge and experience through discussion, show and tell and group critique at the end of the session. The tutor will facilitate group discussions and work with students one-to-one and in groups. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
