What you will learn

An opportunity to explore the Japanese Shibori resist dye technique called Itajime which uses a variety of cut shapes and objects, clamped to folded natural fabric, to create a variety of repeating patterns

    Students will learn through observing tutor demonstration followed by practical experience supported by technical handouts. There will be an emphasis on sharing knowledge and experience through discussion, show and tell and group critique at the end of the session. The tutor will facilitate group discussions and work with students one-to-one and in groups. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

    The course is suitable for complete beginners and those wishing to refresh their skills.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    The textile studio is located in the Nancy Seear block on the second floor accessible by stairs or lift and stair lift combined. If you have any mobility support needs please contact Additional Learning Support on 020 7450 1972 or Art and Design admin on 020 7450 1934 before enrolling.

    It would be helpful to bring apron, rubber gloves, a notebook, pencil and pen.
