What you will learn

This course is a continuation from Key Concepts in Science: Chemistry, however the course is open to all and can be taken with no prior knowledge. Learn a range of topics in chemistry in a series of fun online sessions.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the properties of the different groups of the periodic table.
  • Construct chemical formulae
  • Construct a balanced equation.
  • Perform basic chemistry calculations.
  • Compare empirical formulae and molecular formulae.
  • State the factors affecting rate of reaction.

  • Class format and activities

    A series of fun and engaging sessions delivered by a subject specialist in Chemistry. This course will be delivered as an online course. The online sessions will be offered using Microsoft Teams. You will learn through demonstrations, lecture, problem solving, videos, model building and discussion. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and your own future goals i.e.: progression to an advanced- level course.

    Entry requirements

    Open to all - no prior knowledge required. It is recommended that Key Concepts in Science: Chemistry is taken before this course, however this is not essential.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. This course requires some study/completion of activities outside of class time. For further course information please email science.enquiries@morleycollege.ac.uk

    What you need

    A notepad and pen will be required for taking notes. You will also require a computer/laptop and reliable internet access to join the sessions.
