What you will learn

This course is a continuation from Key Concepts in Science: Biology, however it is not essential to have previously completed this course in order to study 'Key Concepts in Science: More Biology' . Learn in greater detail the basic fundamentals and principles of biology in a series of fun sessions. Open to all - no prior Science knowledge necessary.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Classify living things (plants, animals, microorganisms)
  • Describe the characteristics of living organisms
  • Understand nutrition in plants and animals
  • Understand the organisation of multicellular organisms from cells (through tissues, organs and systems) to organisms
  • Understand the rules of inheritance
  • Explore the relationships between plants and animals in an ecosystem

  • Class format and activities

    A series of fun and engaging sessions delivered by a subject specialist in Biology. This course will be delivered in centre. You will learn through demonstrations, lecture, problem solving, videos, and discussion. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and your own future goals i.e.: progression to an advanced- level course.

    Entry requirements

    Open to all - no prior knowledge required. It is recommended that Key Concepts in Science: Biology is taken before this course, however this is not essential.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    What you need

    A notepad and pen will be required for taking notes. You will also require a computer/laptop and reliable internet access for completion of study and coursework outside of class time.
