What you will learn

This Introduction to Printmaking course is designed as part of a year’s programme but can also be taken individually. You will gain a good overview of the printmaking media and grounding in a range of print techniques such as Monoprint, Drypoint, Collagraph, Linocut and Etching.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • In Term 1 (Autumn) covering aspects of Monoprint, Drypoint and Etching.
  • In Term 2 (winter-Spring) Linocut, Collagraph, Etching.
  • In Term 3 (Summer). Monoprint, Drypoint, Linocut, Etching.

    You will learn to work in the light and well-equipped studio with specialist facilities and develop ideas and imagery into a portfolio of creative prints. Each printmaking technique is taught by demonstration, one-to-one, feedback and group tutorials, encouraging each student’s personal strengths and interests.

    Entry requirements

    These classes are aimed at beginners, those who wish to re-fresh their printmaking skills and those who have a basic arts experience in any other visual arts discipline.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    The Printmaking Studio is at the Morley Chelsea Centre, Hortensia Road SW10, just off the Kings Road and Fulham Road, in the Carlyle building, room CG05 on the ground floor.

    What you need

    You need to bring: a sketchbook or images such as drawings, photographs, collage, etc. to work from and some art equipment such as pencils, eraser, a range of brushes, Stanley knife, scissors, gloves and apron. There is a studio fee of £16.50 payable each term to the tutor which covers basic materials, except paper and plates which you pay extra for as you use them. All materials are available to buy in the studio.
