Fine Art Mentors to kick off Morley Gallery’s autumn 2022 season

Morley Gallery will host Your Safety, Our Concern, an exhibition of new work by Morley College London’s Fine Art Mentoring group.

Opening to the public on Wednesday 7 September, the exhibition will kick start an autumn season that also includes:

  • A headline show by current Zsuzsi Roboz scholar Veronika Neukirch.
  • A collaboration with Learning Through The Arts to mark Black History Month in October.
  • Textiles and jewellery showcases in December…the ideal hunting ground for Christmas gifts.

Led by artist and tutor Erika Winstone, twelve artists have been supported through tutorials, workshops and artists’ talks as part of the Fine Art Mentoring course.

They have been encouraged in their art practice and the daily life of being an artist over the period of a year, culminating in this exhibition, which is themed after two years of living with fear and isolation. Making art has often been a survival mechanism.

The work also recognises that reassuring words and slogans from powers that be may not be as convincing as they were once perceived to be.

The exhibition includes sculpture and installation, painting, drawing, collage printmaking, performance and kinetic sculpture. It brings together a group of artists with the common purpose of investigating and expressing the world around them but with different approaches. Their work is an exciting enquiry into the state of being.

“I congratulate each mentee on this exciting exhibition, I am very proud of them and confidently look forward to seeing their continuing artistic journeys.”
