The course combines a range of systematic physical and vocal warm ups with the learning of a variety of songs in a relaxed atmosphere, to help you increase natural resonance, projection and confidence. Later in the term, there will be opportunities for solo singing, to exercise your listening and performing skills. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment. Achievement on your course will be measured by your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to another course.
You should be able to sing in tune, and be relatively confident singing in front of a small group. Some experience singing in groups such as choirs, as well as music reading are helpful, but not required. The course is suitable for those who wish to gain more confidence singing in small groups and gradually developing to solo performers, as well as those who used to sing in groups or solo in the past and who wish to regain their confidence and vocal shape.
The class features a range of activities including physical and vocal exercises, performance of a range of repertoire and giving feedback to singers when required. Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. The choice of group and solo repertoire is made by the tutor, although suggestions of solo repertoire are welcome.
Copies of the music are provided by the tutor, but tools for note-taking (such as own recording equipment or pen and paper) should be brought by the student.
