What you will learn

This course will give you the underpinning knowledge, skills, and competencies to use counselling skills ethically and safely in a variety of contexts and roles. This qualification is designed for learners interested in using counselling skills as part of their functional role in a wide range of sector areas, or looking to progress towards accredited counsellor status with one of the counselling professional accrediting bodies. This qualification does not qualify learners to practise as a counsellor.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Provide learners with more in-depth knowledge of the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work, and the approaches that underpin the use of these skills.
  • Develop counselling skills
  • Understand the different approaches involved in the use of counselling skills

Class format and activities

Class requires a minimum number to run. If this number is not met, we will be endeavour to offer you a suitable alternative. Average class size – 12-15. This number can change based on presenting circumstances. There are two types of learning outcome on this course: • Skills that can be performed • Knowledge that can be learnt You will complete four mandatory units: 01 Developing counselling skills 02 Theoretical approaches in the use of counselling skills 03 Working ethically with counselling skills 04 Counselling skills and diversity 05 Counselling skills and personal development To ensure you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular constructive and supportive feedback from your tutor.

Entry requirements

NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or equivalent. Learners are advised to have Level 2 English and Maths as you will be assessed through coursework. You will complete an online application and have an interview with one of the course tutors prior to enrolment.

What you need to know before you enrol

Counselling training requires you to be resilient and emotionally secure. This qualification is not suitable for prospective students who may be currently in a state of emotional difficulty, experiencing recent traumas, loss, addiction, or mental health issues. Morley College is an organisational member of BACP (The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). We work within the BACP ethical framework in the design and delivery of our counselling provision. We expect all students to work within professional standards. 100% attendance and punctuality is expected from all students on this course. You will complete set assignments to build a portfolio of evidence. Your portfolio will be stored electronically through MS Teams. This allows you and your tutors to manage your assessments and feedback online as you progress through your course. Microsoft Teams in an application within Microsoft 365 – it is your primary mechanisms for communication, studying and sharing resources on the course. You must be confident using IT (MS Teams) Independently to complete and submit assignments.

What you need

You will need a suitable computer device (not phone), with reliable Internet connection to access MS Teams. A willingness to participate in activities, commitment to completing tasks and assignments independently within deadlines. Ability to engage with feedback constructively.
