There are other versions of this course available. We’ve listed them below and summarized the differences between the one that you are currently viewing.
Blended in-centre delivery with Social Distancing and Online - Develop observational skills through the use of a life model. This is an intensive study of the human form. All abilities welcome. Beginners are guided through 6 week drawing course.
This is a practical class, and you will spend most of your class time drawing and / or painting. The course will focus on observational studies drawing and painting from a live model. If you choose the online option, you may also like to draw or paint someone living with you who is prepared to model for you clothed. You could also choose to make transcriptions from figure drawings and paintings by artists selected by you or your tutor. Because live images will be shared over the internet, models commissioned for the poses will be clothed in bathing costumes. Your tutor will communicate with you via email and classes will be presented live online via ZOOM. For all students techniques will include contour with pencil, weight & modelling with charcoal, gesture drawing with charcoal & pencil, weight & modelling with pen and weight & modelling with brush & tone. Painting will include progressing from a limited to a wide-ranging palette focussing on form and tonal values. Beginners will concentrate on drawing and returning students will pursue personal projects working in chosen medium exploring new techniques in painting & drawing. Although there are limitations when working from home, there is an opportunity here to meet with others online, to practice skills and investigate ideas away from the college studio. It might be that your work could (in part) reflect elements from this challenging time.
