What you will learn

You have passed your Entry 3 exams or understand and use English at a strong upper-intermediate level. You use the Roman alphabet confidently and have good study skills. In this class, you will develop your English and prepare for exams.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Work towards using appropriate language for a given task

Class format and activities

You will: - work individually, in pairs and in groups to develop language skills and confidence. - practise listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. - use the internet and other technology to develop language skills. - build your study skills - prepare for exams.

What you need to know before you enrol

Good progression depends on good attendance, regular practice of English and completing homework. ESOL Level 1 is demanding and the student is expected to commit to regular daily practice.

Lined A4 paper or notebook. Pen and pencil Rubber A4 file A smartphone or tablet will be useful in class.

What you can do next

The teacher will advise you on the next step. During this term, subject to tutor advice, you will prepare for the Level 1 Reading and Writing exams. If you progress successfully, you can enrol on the Bridging to Level 2 course or the Level 2 ESOL course in the next academic year. Progression is also subject to good attendance, regular practice of English and completing homework.
