What you will learn

This course is for you:if you would like to communicate more fluentlyif you would like to give a short presentationif you would like to have a better understanding of English expressionsif you would like to improve your ability to read about a wider range of subjectsif you would write formally or informally with accuracy In this course, you will develop speaking and listening, reading and writing skills. Each term includes all four skills but focuses on a specific skill for the exam taken in that term. When you pass each skill you will receive a certificate for that particular skill.To achieve the full ESOL Level 1 qualification, you must pass Speaking and Listening Level 1, Reading Level 1 and Writing Level 1.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Produce content appropriate to purpose
  • Use appropriate language for a given task
  • Structure text in a logical sequence for purpose
  • Use grammar, punctuation and spelling correctly

On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: Award in ESOL Skills for Life (Writing) [CG]

Class format and activities

These are classroom-based lessons. Some lessons may be delivered online. You will work in pairs, small groups or individually and have the opportunity to talk to your tutor about your progress.

Entry requirements

You will take an initial assessment which will determine your current level of English or if you have passed ESOL Entry level 3, you may enrol onto this course.

Term 1 – Speaking and Listening Term 2 – Reading Term 3 – Writing What each term requires: • attending 2 classes of 2.5 hours per week • completion of homework • a minimum of 90% attendance per term
