Welcome to "Draw and Paint: Personal Projects", a practical and inspiring course designed for anyone eager to develop their ongoing art projects or discover new pathways. Develop your drawing and painting skills, studying inks, oils, acrylics and mixed media. Identify harmonious composition, form, colour, tone and proportion working from observation, (including the model). Returning students will be encouraged to develop individual projects. Students new to the group will follow an introductory drawing and painting programme for the first 6-8 weeks.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Develop observational skills to accurately interpret and depict a range of subjects as part of ongoing practice.
- Apply fundamental drawing and painting techniques, including composition, perspective, and colour theory, to create balanced and expressive artworks.
- Experiment with a variety of materials and media, such as pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolour, and acrylics, to discover personal preferences and approaches to landscape painting.
- Understand and utilise light, tone, and texture to create depth, atmosphere, and mood where appropriate.
- Engage with both traditional and contemporary art practices, gaining inspiration from a range of artists and styles.
- Create a cohesive body of work, demonstrating growing confidence, technical ability, and a personal artistic response to individual subjects.
Cost
Class format and activities
This practical, studio-based course combines group instruction with individual support in a relaxed and inclusive adult learning environment. You will work from source materials such as photographs, sketches, and observation, with opportunities to develop both quick studies and more sustained pieces. Activities include drawing, colour mixing, composition planning, and painting in various media. Group feedback and optional peer sharing encourage reflection and confidence as you develop your personal approach to art practice. Our art and design studios are well-equipped with a range of industry and specialist tools and equipment in a shared access environment. As a college, we look to embed sustainable practice through reducing waste, recycling and upcycling of materials. In the interest of sustainability, Morley College uses Teams and MyDay as digital platforms for sharing resources and information.
Entry requirements
This course is open to adults with some experience who wish to refresh or build on their skills. The course is designed to support a range of learning styles and experience levels, with tailored guidance to suit individual needs
What you need to know before you enrol
By enrolling on this course, students agree to adhere to the student code of conduct and Health & Safety guidance as posted or as directed by a member of staff. As a Morley College student, you will have access to Microsoft Office platforms, including a dedicated Morley College email. You will need to use your Morley email address for certain college activities.
What you need
Although some basic resources are available in studio, you will need to purchase some of the following materials across the duration of the course depending on your individual progress: A sketchbook (A4 or A3) for notes, studies, and preliminary sketches, Pencils (HB, 2B, 4B) and an eraser Charcoal sticks or a soft graphite stick (optional), A basic set of paints, Brushes (a small selection of round and flat brushes in various sizes), different papers and/or canvases A palette or mixing tray
