Develop your musicianship skills, including rhythm, melody and harmony in this practical course. The course involves sight singing and transcription exercises which will help to promote inner hearing and develop your confidence both with the voice and with instrumental playing.
Practise of intervals, rhythms, scales and chords. Involves singing, writing musical examples, clapping, active listening, and developing the short-term memory. Singing in relative solfa (moveable doh) will be a key component of the course.
You will need to be familiar with music theory to at least ABRSM Grade 3 or equivalent. Students should also have some familiarity with relative solfa / tonic solfa / moveable doh.
Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. Your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to another course. Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. This course requires study/completion of activities outside of class time.
Manuscript paper and a pencil. Extra materials will be provided by the tutor.
This course supports and develops musicianship skills so is helpful for instrumentalists and singers. For any kind of further music study and also to support current music study.
