What you will learnThis course introduces students to some of the key reading and writing skills used in GCSE English. It is ideal for students who have just completed a Functional Skills qualification and intend to enrol for GCSE in the autumn.Learning OutcomesBy the end of this course, you will be able to:• Write a creative description based on a picture• Create characters and plots in short stories• Identify literary techniques used by writers of fiction to create meaningClass format and activitiesStudents will be introduced to a variety of creative writing techniques with examples of texts by a range of authors. The emphasis is on analysing and writing fiction to prepare students for the first term of the GCSE course. As well as reading and writing, discussion is an important part of the course.Entry requirementsStudents should have native or near-native command of English and a Functional Skills qualification is advisable.
