This short online course will equip learners with a basic understanding of common childhood illnesses, including how to provide a safe and healthy environment for babies and young children, how to recognise when a baby or child is unwell, and how to manage acute and chronic health conditions in an early years setting. The course is ideal for anyone currently working with children (either as a nanny or in an early years setting) or for those looking to work with children in the future. It is also suitable for current or future parents looking to gain more information relating to common illnesses in children.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:

- recognise signs and symptoms of the common childhood illnesses
- understand key features of a safe and healthy environment for babies and young children
- understand methods of transmission of common childhood illnesses
- describe the purpose of immunisation
- Describe record-keeping procedures involved in caring for an unwell child in an early-years setting
Cost
Class format and activities
This class will take place online vis MS Teams. You will require access to a computer with internet access and a quiet place to study. You will learn via lecture, discussion and group work. Your success on the course will be assessed via your progress against the objectives above. In order to ensure you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular constructive and supportive feedback from your tutor. The tutor will also set assessment activities involving student exchange of ideas and student self-assessment for all students.
