What you will learn
Qigong exercises form a vital part of ‘yang sheng’ (health cultivation) in Chinese. The gentle movements and standing postures aid relaxation by concentrating and calming the mind, relieving mental and physical tension and restoring ‘qi’ or vital energy. The aim of Chinese medicine is to return the body to a state of balance. Qigong exercises work on different organs (liver, heart, spleen, lung and kidney) and fundamental substances (qi, blood, essence) to create a harmony of yin and yang.
By the end of the course you will be able to
- Feel the sensation of Qi or functional energy in the body

What you can do next
A new set of dao yin/yin yang/da gong/healing sounds exercises will be taught in the next Qigong course. Students are encouraged to attend the next term to improve their level of practice (standing qigong, stretching/suppleness). You will also learn a set of exercises based on Chinese Medicine Theory for a different organ/element (i.e. Heart-Fire, Liver-Wood) or a set of exercises to balance the organs. Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chu’uan) is also available at Morley College. Students can also develop their Qi through learning a longer form of exercise with a martial art component by attending the Taijiquan Chen Style: All Comers class with Laura at Morley.
