London Craft Week 2025: Waterloo Centre

Explore interactive craft workshops led by well-known artists and makers at our historic Waterloo Centre for adult education. Walk in the footsteps of Edward Bawden, Bridget Riley, Maggi Habmling, Denzil Forrester and Oli Epp as you try textiles, jewellery, ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking and fashion.

By linking art and practical skills, people can make a living doing what they love. But it’s also about the people you meet along your journey. Come and join us for London Craft Week 2025 and find your call.

Monday 12 May
Visual Arts

11:00 – 13:00 An Introduction to Collage with Dr Fatemeh Takht-Keshian

Designed for students of all skill levels, this workshop will introduce you to diverse methods of collage-making, including traditional cut-and-paste & mixed-media approaches.

Under the guidance of a highly experienced tutor with a PhD in Art, you will experiment with composition and materials. You will explore the basics of collage as a medium, it’s role in contemporary art and how some artists employ it to explore new artistic possibilities.

Humanities Workshops

15:00 – 17:00 FrühlingsbastelnGerman Crafts Workshop

German Crafts Workshop: In this practical and mindful German spring craft session, you’ll use recycled magazines, paper, pictures, fabric, colours, scissors, glue and string; make spring-inspired collages, cards or decorations; learn about different craft techniques in German and learn relevant German vocabulary. Material will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own.

Textiles

10:00 – 13:00 Naturally Printed: Screenprinting with Plant-Based Dyes on Linen & Cotton

This workshop introduces participants to sustainable screenprinting techniques using natural dye pastes thickened with cornstarch. Participants will design and print a set of 3 coordinated textile samples or a small wall hanging, working with pre-scoured linen and cotton fabric. They’ll explore colour mixing, layering, and freehand or stencilled designs using 3 plant-based colours.

Humanities Workshops

11:00 – 13:00 Japanese Card Making with Hisano Luttman

If you are interested in Japanese and would like to make your own cards for or for any festive occasion, join us for this Japanese card-making workshop? You will have the opportunity to learn a few words in Japanese and to unleash your creative juices. Hisano Luttman is a languages tutor at Morley. She is also an artist and the daughter of a calligraphy master. Having developed her skills in this craft over the years, she now not only teaches Japanese language, but also Japanese calligraphy

Ceramics

13:00 – 16:00 Ceramics Decal Work with Pippa Jameson Evans

An opportunity to create your own unique, hand-decorated piece of China using ceramic transfers. You will explore design ideas with exciting visual resources provided by your tutor. A piece of fine white glazed china is provided which we kiln-fire to make the transfers professional and permanent, ready for you to collect a week later by arrangement.

10:00 – 13:00 Costume Workshop – Neck Ruff with Jean Ross Timmes

There are as many ways to construct neck ruffs as there are people who have constructed them. You will learn the construction techniques of ruffs and how they worn and how to wear them yourself.

13:00 – 16:00 Tree of Life Beaded Pendant Workshop with Annette Warham

Create an intricate Tree of Life pendant from wire and gemstone beads. Learn the skills of wire and bead wrapping to create a beaded tree pendant. A fantastic introduction to basic wire working skills. All materials provided.
