Student-designed neon installation illuminates Chelsea Centre

Morley College London’s March-long focus on the Chelsea Centre for the Creative Industries came to an end yesterday during a special evening event during which a new artwork in the reception area was switched on for the first time.

Designed by students, the installation is a preview of the kind of project that will be delivered by the Chelsea Agency, an initiative that gives students the opportunity to work on real-world creative projects.

Centre Principal Matias Shortcook outlined the vision for the Chelsea Centre for the Creative Industries, noting that the creative industries were responsible for more economic activity in the UK than many other sectors combined, and stating that: “Creativity is everywhere. It is valued as much by athletes, engineers, mathematicians and scientists as it is by artists, writers and composers.”

Shortcook’s vision is outlined in a statement available for download below.
