London Jazz Orchestra announced as Morley’s 2020 artist-in-residence

Morley College London is pleased to welcome the London Jazz Orchestra as the 2020 Music and Performing Arts artist-in-residence.

Directed by Scott Stroman, the London Jazz Orchestra has been described as “as fine a band as you can find anywhere” (The Independent). The band has been  attracting  some of the UK’s  top jazz players and writers from Kenny Wheeler and John Taylor in the early days to the exciting current line-up.

Wheeler was one of the world’s most original and inspiring writers of modern big-band jazz and a founder member of the (new) London Jazz Orchestra. His playing and writing have influenced several generations of composer-soloists that make up this uniquely ambitious and dedicated band.

As part of the residency the LJO will be playing at Morley on June 25th (as part of the 2020 Jazz at Morley series) but even more excitingly for students, the band will  perform a new composition, written as a collaboration between the LJO and  Morley tutors and students,  to mark the end of the residency on December 4th 2020. The concert will involve all of the Morley Big Bands and will feature some of Morley’s jazz piano students. Morley learners will have the opportunity to work and play along with some of the finest jazz musicians in London.
