Jazz at Morley 2023

Morley College was one of the first adult learning Colleges in the UK to acknowledge the importance of Jazz and Afro-Cuban music as art forms.

Under the direction of Flavio Li Vigni (Morley College Head of Jazz) and Josephine Davies (Jazz Artist in Residence), this highly anticipated concert series returns to the Emma Cons Hall (Morley College London Waterloo Centre) with three concerts after two very successful seasons.

Friday 28 April, 7.30pm – The opening concert will be a special set from vocalist Brigitte Beraha, joined by acclaimed saxophonist Iain Bellamy and pianist Matt Robinson. Following on from the trio, Robert Mitchell will then take to the stage and will be highlighting music from his 2020 record The Rainbow Mountain/Can We Care and narrate some poetry from his upcoming second book. Book here.

Friday 12 May, 7.30pm – An evening with trumpeter Robbie Robson’s Quintet will then take place the following month. Drawing from interpretations of music from the 50s and 60s, the group combines members who have played together for over 20 years at the cutting edge of the British Jazz scene. Book here.

Friday 9 June, 7.30pm – A special double bill will close the season with Josephine Davies (Jazz Artist in Residence) on tenor sax, with her duo partner, Elliot Galvin on piano. Following on from them will be a piano and voice duo by Fini Bearman and Tom Cawley who will be playing an intimate set of original music together with much loved songs and jazz standards. Book here.

Tune in from 6.30pm on Morley Radio before each show to listen to live interview recordings of the performers discussing their most influential Jazz records.
