What you will learn

This course is aimed at beginners and is also suitable for all levels. This course will give you the chance to explore ceramics and its potential for creative output, and in doing so improve your wellbeing. You will learn techniques to make simple items and learn about slip decoration and glazing. Students will be introduced to Throwing on the potters wheel and will be encouraged to develop their skills and to express their own creative ideas throughout the workshop. Students will also experiment with surface decoration techniques such as slip trailing, wax resistant, and Sgraffito glazing. You will have the chance to produce a piece of work or several test pieces at a pace that suits you.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Decorate items with slips and underglazes, and how to use glaze to decorative effect
  • Decorate items with slips and underglazes, and how to use glaze to decorative effect
  • Keep a working journal of inspirational material from the internet and magazines, sketches and technical notes for your own benefit and is not compulsory
  • Make a variety of ceramic pieces using a number of techniques

    Entry requirements

    You must be aged 19 or over at the start date of the course. There are no entry requirements for this course, if you are a beginner or someone with more experience, this will be suitable for you.
