If you are interested in analogue photography and the black and white darkroom, this course is just for you. You will take photographs using an SLR film camera; you will process the film and print in the darkroom. During this practical course you will learn the basic functions and controls of an analogue camera and will understand exposure and light metering. The course will also cover information on different film types, as well as formats. During the first week, there will be a location photo shoot near the College where you will take photographs finishing a roll of black and white film, which you will process in the following week. Between the sessions you will be given tips to get you photographing and using your camera, while thinking of your subjects in black and white. This course includes an introduction to film processing and black and white printing, in terms of contact sheets and a basic enlargement producing a print. At the end of the course, you will be able to understand how your camera works and set it up according to your needs using manual controls and choosing a suitable film type, as well as processing black and white film, and creating contact sheets and a print.
