There are other versions of this course available. We’ve listed them below and summarized the differences between the one that you are currently viewing.
Lindy Hop - Intermediate and Performance course9-week course In this 9-week Intermediate and Performance Lindy Hop course, you will learn more complex figures, developing ways to integrate them into your current practice. You will learn the classic “Stops” routine. You will also deepen your knowledge and skills in partnering technique and individual styling. One half of this course will be dedicated to developing your social dancing skills with the addition of new figures and more elaborate combinations, styling etc. The other half of the course will draw on the classic and tutor-developed choreographed routines to create a performance piece. There will be an opportunity to perform at the college’s end of year showcase.
The class will begin with a group stroll to warm up. The first part of the session will be working on Lindy Hop, rotating partners. There will be a break, during which we will watch a short video clip around the theme of “Lindy Hop in Performance” and discuss it to understand the history and also to apply what we learn to our own practice. The second part of the session will be working on a choreographed routine. By the end of the course, the routine will be performance-ready. Two sessions (end of half term and end of term) will be dedicated practice sessions, in which students will work on their social and choreographed material with the tutor on hand to offer help and advice as needed.
You must have taken the 9-week Intermediate course, or be able to demonstrate (in your preferred role) the ability to socially dance 6-count, 8-count Lindy Hop as well as Lindy Charleston figures for a full song, to take this course. Photography and film recording of class activities may be used in order to aid learning. These images may also be used for publicity or marketing materials produced by Morley College, both online and in print. You will have the opportunity to either confirm or decline consent to being filmed or photographed. Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant, have any serious health conditions or a history of injury. Please inform your tutor if there is any physical activity you have be advised to avoid.
We practise the social dance aspect in class by rotating partners, so you will need to be willing to dance with different people. Lead and Follow roles are not gender-defined and anybody is welcome to take either role. Learning both roles through “switching” is also possible. A good level of fitness is required, particularly due to the performance aspect of this course. If you have any physical restrictions, please make the tutor aware of this before the start of class. Be aware that each session involves on average 1. 5hrs of dancing (which involves a lot of repetition) and 15 mins pausing for discussion
