There are other versions of this course available. We’ve listed them below and summarized the differences between the one that you are currently viewing.
Lindy Hop and Swing Dances - Intermediate9-weeks In this 9-week Intermediate Lindy Hop course, you will continue to develop your basic and variations on classic lindy hop figures, integrating them into your current practice. In the second part of the session, you will also learn steps from other swing dance styles, namely Balboa, Shag and Boogie Woogie (3 weeks of each). Exploring these other styles, you will widen your understanding and experience in Swing Dancing and be able to participate in more social dances and classes here and abroad. It will also support your deepening knowledge and skills in partnering technique and individual styling.
The class will begin with a quick warm up. The first part of the class will be an introduction to either Balboa, Shag or Boogie Woogie. The second part of the session will be working on Lindy Hop, rotating partners. There will be a break, during which we will watch a short video clip of one of the swing dances we are learning and discuss it Two sessions (end of half term and end of term) will be dedicated Social Dance Practice in which the session will be a social dance where the tutor will be on hand to offer advice and tips.

Balboa is a partner dance that involves a close hold, so you will need to be comfortable dancing with another person in close physical proximity. Shag and Boogie Woogie dances are both energetic, and require a very good level of stamina and good level of fitness and particularly strong ankles for a lot of bouncing movement for sustained periods of time. We practice the social dance aspect in class by rotating partners, so you will need to be willing to dance with different people. Lead and Follow roles are not gender-defined and anybody is welcome to take either role.
