What you will learn

At the B1 level of Spanish, learners focus on consolidating their understanding of past tenses and introducing the subjunctive mood. They develop the ability to understand and produce texts on familiar topics or of personal interest, engage in spontaneous conversations on various familiar topics, express opinions/feelings, and deal with most situations encountered while travelling and interacting with Spanish native speakers.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Talk about past experiences and events such as personal stories, anecdotes or memorable life moments,
  • Participate in (spontaneous) conversations and discussions about current events, social issues and familiar topics asking for and expressing personal opinions/feelings, giving arguments and using persuasive devices,
  • Use reported speech to relay what others have said,
  • Understand, respond to and produce different types of texts such as articles, essays, anecdotes, emails, or short stories on familiar topics.

Class format and activities

Developing speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Learning through practical activities (individual tasks, role-plays, pair and small group work and games). Reading and listening for the gist or basic information. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

To have basic knowledge of Spanish equivalent to 50-60 hours of tuition (A2).

What you need to know before you enrol

Good attendance and punctuality are required from all students. This course requires study/completion of activities outside of class time (1-2 hours/weekly)

What you need

You will need pen and a notebook for the weekly lessons at the college. Any textbook required for the course will be negotiated by the tutor with students at the beginning of the course. You will also need home connection to Internet and a device to use at home. Access to Morley Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) on a weekly basis. In here you will find class and supplementary material for each lesson.
