What you will learn

Research seasonal natural dyeing on sustainable fabrics. Explore contemporary natural dye practice locally and globally with links to ritual, medicine and folklore. Utilise plants from the Morley dye garden. Develop with support an individual project to showcase your design development.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Experiment with a summer seasonal natural dye and print palette on a range of fibres
  • Develop an individual project for a textile artwork, fashion application or interior design
  • Research, discuss and use sustainable fabrics
  • Harvest plants from the Morley Dye Garden

  • Class format and activities

    Teaching is both on a group and individual basis in a specialist studio and dye garden. The tutor will give demonstrations, presentations and guide group discussions. By the end of the course everyone will have a range of beautiful fabric swatches together with technical notes.

    Entry requirements

    Open to all levels and particularly aimed at those who have completed one of the other natural dyeing courses or tasters.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    The Textile Studio is on the second floor of the building and we will also be using the college dye garden, a reasonable level of fitness is required. The class is situated on the second floor of the Nancy Sear Building. There is partial disabled access via a lift to the first floor and a stair lift to the second.     A beautiful sketchbook to document your work, pen, rubber gloves and apron.
