What you will learn

A unique opportunity for students to explore printing with slips onto clay using photo screen printing techniques. Students will experiment with mark-making and design in order to make own silk screen to then print on clay surface. You will be taught by two expert practitioners, in specialist textile and ceramics studios. This course is held at Morley, Waterloo site.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Develop design work skills using the theme 'Botanicals'
  • Make your own screen and practice screen printing techniques
  • Explore printing with slip onto a clay surface
  • Gain fundamental awareness of safe studio practice in the textiles and ceramics studios

    You will be guided through tutor demonstrations and instructions. You will work as a group and through individual practice, where you will be encouraged to explore and develop personal ideas and techniques. There will be a group discussion at the end of the course.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    There will be low level of physical activity on this course. If you have any concerns please come and see your tutor who will be happy to give guidance or assistance if required.

    What you need

    Materials are provided. However an apron and note book are recommended and if you have any personal pottery tools do bring them. You will be contacted before the class by your tutors regarding the theme and source material. We have a charge for clay, £2 per kilo before bisque firing only. There will be a small charge if you want to keep your screen.

    Morley College offers a wide range of courses at all levels of ability. We recommend you attend at least two terms on the beginner course before moving onto various mixed level courses. Students can also look to progress onto certificated or part-time Ceramics or 3D courses such as BTEC, BA degree or MA postgraduate courses. At Morley we offer a part-time HND in Product Design/Ceramics. Your tutor is also happy to advise in setting up your own studio
