Curator Debby Brown brings examples of toys and dolls from around the world from Pollocks Toy Museum to inspire ideas for making your own imaginary cloth creature or art doll. Specially adapted basic pattern shapes will turn flat cloth into 3D stuffed figures. Whether monsters, beauties, robots or mermaids, enjoy creating with fabric and stitch in this fully supported workshop. Bring your own fabric scraps for details and to add as clothing. Learn how to embroider faces, make hair, fingers and toes.

Cost
Class format and activities
Discussion and sharing of student ideas will determine individual projects, with tutor demonstrations of how to adapt from a range of basic pattern pieces. The examples from Pollocks toy collection will show how toys have been constructed by both hand and industrial processes, and offer ideas for themes and decorative surfaces. Let your imagination run riot and create a unique cloth creature in this fully supported and friendly workshop.
Entry requirements
Basic hand or machine sewing experience is needed.
What you need to know before you enrol
The textiles studio is located in the Nancy Seear block on the second floor accessible by stairs or lift and stair lift combined. If you have any mobility support needs please contact ALS on 020 7450 1972 before enrolling.
What you need
A notebook or sketchbook and pencil and/or camera. A basic sewing kit, plus any favourite fabric scraps and trimmings. You will also need a standard bag of polyester toy and cushion filling. Suitable cloth choices will be discussed on the first day.
