What you will learn

Pearson BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Information and Creative Technology. It is the main qualification as part of a study programme. You will be expected to study English and Maths as part of your study programme. If you have not yet achieved a grade 4 at GCSE (C) you will expected to enrol onto an appropriate English and /or Maths course at GCSE or Functional Skills dependent upon your entry grade and/or initial assessment. Specific aims of the BTEC First Extended Certificate in Information and Creative Technology are to: Allow learners to specialise in Information and Creative Technology or to deepen their understanding through the provision of a broad range of optional specialist units. Provide a comprehensive and challenging programme of study related to Information and Creative Technology, suited to post-16 learners who have the relevant interest and aptitude. Give learners the potential opportunity to progress to employment or to employment in a wide range of job roles across the Information and Creative Technology sector, for example in roles such as software engineer, website content manager, computer animator, helpdesk support, and graphic designer. Class format and activities

We deliver the BTEC First by using a range of learning materials, classroom exercises and internal assessments that draw on current practice in and experience of the Information and Creative Technologies sector. This may include: vocationally specific workplace case-study materials visiting speakers and the assistance of local employers visits to local workplaces visits to employers in the information and creative technology asking a local employer to set learners a problem-solving activity to be carried out in groups referring to trade journals, magazines or newspaper articles relevant to the sector. External assessment Externally-assessed units have the same grades as internally-assessed units: Level 2 - Pass, Merit, Distinction Level 1 - Unclassified. Unit 1: The Online World Type of external assessment. This unit is externally assessed using an onscreen test. Pearson sets and marks the test. Unit 2: Technology Systems Type of external assessment. This unit is externally assessed using an onscreen test. Pearson sets and marks the test.

Entry requirements

If you are aged 16 to 18.? You have achieved minimum of 4 GCSEs at 3 (D) or above OR achieved successfully an appropriate qualification at level 1. You will be expected to hold 3 (D) or above in English and Maths. If you have not yet achieved a grade 4 at GCSE (C) you will expected to enrol onto an appropriate English and/or Maths course at GCSE or Functional Skills dependent upon your entry grade and/or initial assessment.

What you need to know before you enrol

You will have timetabled classes during the week (Mon-Fri), during the day time. 15 one-hour whole group tutorials per year with them front loaded in Term 1 to include at least 6 (3 per half term). Where possible students will access work experience to support their employability. All students to access work placements in 22/23.Also units might change or vary.

What you need

You will be given a book list and will be expected to buy a main text book to support you in your studies . You will need stationery (pens and paper) to support you during your studies. You will be expected to have access to a computer at home and do independent studying.
