What you will learn

This introductory course is designed to provide an introduction to the basic mathematical skills required for further study in the Sciences. The course is ideal for anyone hoping to study a GCSE or Access to HE in a science-related subject and who feels they need to improve their maths skills prior to starting study.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Perform a range of basic calculations
  • Transpose basic equations
  • Substitute into basic equations
  • Draw simple graphs
  • Carry out basic logarithm calculations

Class format and activities

This fun and engaging short course will introduce you to the basic concepts of maths for the study of science. You will learn through problem solving activities, group work, videos and practice problems. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to an advanced- level course

This course will take place in person at the North Kensington Centre.

You will need a pen, paper and a scientific calculator. You may wish to have your own graph paper. All other materials will be provided.
