There are other versions of this course available. We’ve listed them below and summarized the differences between the one that you are currently viewing.
A non-auditioned introduction to string orchestra playing, welcoming students of varying standards, from those who can read and play notes in first position, up to about Grade 5. A varied repertoire of music is played and students can join in any term.
Students will play music on their instrument, chosen to suit the standard of the players. You will need to follow and contribute to discussions in English. Music Study can include the use of digital resources such as listening to recordings, watching videos online, using appropriate mobile applications and following Moodle -Morley's virtual learning environment- to enhance your learning inside and outside the classroom. Music study also offers a range of benefits including being an enjoyable way to enhance wellbeing. Music practice at Morley can also serve to enhance skills relevant for employment including developing creativity, developing high-concentration levels, building self-confidence, working to deadlines, being able to control nerves and working as part of a team.
A basic knowledge of playing your instrument in 1st position is sufficient, though as there are different parts, more advanced players are also needed and welcomed.
There is no direct practice needed for this class, apart from technical points that may arise. Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. This course requires study/completion of activities outside of class time. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. Your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to another course.
Instrument and bow are sufficient, music is provided by the tutor.
You may want to repeat the course for as many terms as you wish, since the music is chosen to suit the level of the players within the class at any one time. You may also be interested in joining 'Violin 1', 'Violin 2'.
