The Morley Chamber Orchestra offers players a unique opportunity to explore rich and rewarding repertoire in a welcoming and collaborative ensemble. Open to adult learners and community musicians, this course focuses on developing ensemble skills, musical interpretation, and confidence in orchestral playing. With special encouragement for violinists to join, participants will enjoy rehearsing and performing beautiful works from the Baroque to contemporary periods in a supportive, non-competitive setting. Each term introduces a new selection of chamber orchestra repertoire, culminating in two public performances with special guests as soloists.
Weekly Rehearsals: 2. 5-hour sessions led by an experienced conductor. Sectional Work: Occasional breakout sessions with focus on violin technique and musical challenges. Interpretation Coaching: Explore phrasing, dynamics, and articulation relevant to each term's repertoire. Performance Opportunities: Mid-term and End-of-term public concerts.
There is an audition process, but entry is also by recommendation or application to the conductor. A level of ABRSM Grade 7/8 or comparable standard is needed and ideally some depth of previous orchestral experience. It is possible under some circumstances to join the orchestra after the start of each term.
This is a friendly, non-competitive ensemble designed for enjoyment and musical growth. Players are expected to attend regularly and practice parts between sessions.
You will only need to bring your instrument.
