What you will learn

This study programme is specially designed for you to explore career options alongside English and maths qualifications. You can focus on either childcare and early years, health and social care or public services. Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress onto one of our Level 2 courses in early years, health and social care or public services. The qualification you will study is a BTEC Level 1 Vocational Studies programme, which is ideal for you if you are undecided about what career path to take. The course has been specially designed to give you tasters in a variety of different careers, including childcare, adult healthcare and public services, before deciding on a specialism later in the year. At the same time, you will continue to develop your maths, English and IT skills to support your future progression. You will complete a range of different modules which will include topics such as “working in a team” and “self-assessment” and “career progression”. In addition, you will complete modules in each of the vocational areas, such as “public service careers” and “encouraging children to eat healthily”.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Decide which health, social or childcare profession will best suit you
  • Develop a clear plan on how you will progress towards your career goals

On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: BTEC Introductory Diploma in Vocational Studies [EDEXCEL]

Class format and activities

The course is made up of a variety of modules with a focus on practical assessments. You will be assessed by completing a series of workpacks.

Entry requirements

Two GCSEs at Grade 2 or above, including English and maths. Functional Skills at Entry Level 3 in English and maths will also be accepted. Progressing Morley students will be considered without the requisite entry requirements if they are able to provide a good reference for attitude, behaviour, attendance and punctuality from their current tutor.

What you need

You should arrive to your lessons prepared to learn with pens, pencils and a writing pad. All other resources and materials you need will be provided. In the event of teaching moving online, you will need a computer with internet access for online lessons via MS Teams on a daily basis.
