Class format and activities
Weekly lectures cover conducting techniques, score study, orchestral terminology, and historical context. Guided analysis and preparation of selected works.
Entry requirements
Intermediate to advanced proficiency on an orchestral instrument or voice. Good foundational music theory skills (e. g. knowledge of key signatures, chord structures, time signatures).
What you need to know before you enrol
This is not a beginner musicianship course; it is intended for students with existing musical literacy. Familiarity with a range of orchestral repertoire (from classical to contemporary) will be helpful. Basic piano proficiency is beneficial, though not required.
What you need
Baton (recommended but not mandatory). Access to a full orchestral score (assigned repertoire will be provided or available online). Notebook for rehearsal plans and score markings. Recording device (smartphone or camera) for practice and assessment purposes. Comfortable clothing suitable for physical movement.
