The Level 5 Higher Technical Qualification is designed to support progression into relevant occupational areas or on to pre-registration study. Students will have committed to a career path in healthcare.
Once students have achieved the Level 5 Higher National Diploma, they can develop their career in nursing by:
- entering employment
- continuing existing employment and seek promotion
- linking with the appropriate professional body
- committing to continuing professional development, or
- studying at university.
Progression to university The Level 5 Higher National Diploma is recognised by Higher Education providers as meeting admission requirements to many relevant health and social care-related courses, for example:
- BA or BSc (Hons) in Health and Social Care
- BA or BSc (Hons) in Health Studies
- BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing Apprenticeships
In addition, there are established routes into higher apprenticeships in health and social care such as:
- Nursing Associate L5 (NMC 2018)
- Registered Nurse Degree L6 (2018)
- Community Nurse Specialist Practitioner (NMC 2022)
- Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (NMC 2022)
- District Nurse L7
