What you will learn

This ESOL course focuses on creative skills as a way to develop language skills. The course will cover speaking & listening, reading and writing skills and will help you to communicate more fluently and with more confidence. The course will help build a range of vocabulary and grammatical structures by exploring a range of different creative sources. For instance, you will discuss language and ideas presented in literary texts (such as poetry and drama) and give presentations to a small group of students, take part in group discussions and develop creative writing techniques. This is an accredited course designed tap into your (perhaps latent) creative skills as you develop confidence and fluency.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify language features in literary texts.
  • Develop creative skills such as creative writing and poetry recitation.
  • Evaluate writers’ methods and viewpoints in creative texts.
  • Respond to others constructively to complete a collective task.
  • Communicate more fluently and with more confidence.

Class format and activities

This course is an evening in college. All the lessons will take place in one of the newly-renovated classrooms. You will work individually, in pairs, in small groups or as a whole class group. You will also have the chance to talk on a one-to-one level with your tutor. You will experience a wide and varied range of activities, such as listening to audios, role play, interviews/pair-work, group discussions, reading stories, poems and plays, using helpful online websites and an interactive whiteboard to help you learn. Everything that you learn will help you in your daily life and work.

Entry requirements

You may join this course if your level of English is tested near or above ESOL Entry 3.

What you need to know before you enrol

Attend or contact North Kensington centre to make an appointment for Advice and Guidance to confirm this course is right for you. Course Fees: Variable rates are available. You may be able to do the course for FREE depending on your personal circumstances. Attendance and Punctuality: Making good progress on the course will depend on regular attendance and punctuality. A minimum of 90% attendance is required from students at Morley College London.

What you need

Writing Tools: Quality pens, pencils, and erasers for writing assignments, creative writing exercises, and journaling. Open Mind and Willingness to Experiment: An open attitude towards trying new creative activities and experimenting with language use. A willingness to collaborate, share ideas, and provide constructive feedback to peers.
