This course is for you if: You understand little or no English but read and write in your language and can also use the Roman alphabetYou want to learn about life in the UK You want to begin reading, writing, speaking and listening in English to help you in your everyday life and work This course will help you develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Obtain necessary information from simple verbal communication for a given task
  • Use pronunciation to convey intended meaning
  • Express simple views clearly during verbal communication
  • Make effective verbal requests to obtain information

Class format and activities

Lessons are currently online using MS Teams or Google Meet. You will work in pairs or small groups or individually. You will have a one-to-one with your tutor to talk about your progress. You will experience range of activities such as listening, role play, reading aloud, writing, quizzes, word searches and other games. You will use YouTube, an interactive whiteboard and computers to help you learn. Everything that you learn will help you in your daily life. Assessment methods: At the end of term, you may be able take a reading exam if you are ready to do so.

There are no entry requirements but you will have an interview.

After completion of this course you can join an ESOL course with a focus on writing or speaking and listening. Your tutor will be able to advise you.
