What you will learn

This course is for you if you understand little or no English but read and write in your language and can also use the Roman alphabet. The course will develop your understanding of basic vocabulary and grammar as well as life in the UK. You will begin to read, write, speak and listen in English to help you in your everyday life and work. This course will help you develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Obtain necessary information from simple verbal communication for a given task.
  • Use pronunciation to convey intended meaning.
  • Express simple views such as likes and dislikes clearly during verbal communication.
  • Make effective verbal requests to obtain straightforward information

Class format and activities

You will work in pairs or small groups or individually. You will also have one-to-one discussions with your tutor to talk about your progress. You will experience a wide and varied range of activities such as listening to audio, role-play, reading aloud, writing activities, quizzes, word searches and other games. You will also use digital learning technologies to help you learn. You will have an individual learning plan with targets that are personal to you.

Entry requirements

You will take an initial assessment, which will determine your current level of English. You may join this course if your assessed level is far below the standards at Entry Level 1.

Attend or contact North Kensington centre to make an appointment for Advice and Guidance to confirm this course is right for you. Course Fees: Variable rates are available. You may be able to do the course for FREE depending on your personal circumstances. Attendance and Punctuality: Making good progress on the course will depend on regular attendance and punctuality. A minimum of 90% attendance is required from students at Morley College London.

You will need writing materials (a pen, a notebook) and a folder to store materials.
