What you will learn

Level 2A marks the beginning of intermediate study for classical guitarists. Designed for students who have completed a beginner course or are comfortable with basic technique and music reading, this term focuses on strengthening core skills including right-hand finger independence, left-hand coordination, and expressive playing. Students will begin exploring more complex rhythms, musical phrasing, and beginner-level solo repertoire from the classical canon.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Perform beginner-level classical pieces with accurate rhythm and tone.
  • Demonstrate improved right-hand finger patterns and basic arpeggios.
  • Read and interpret music in first position, including basic dynamics and articulation.
  • Execute simple slurs and basic rest strokes.
  • Understand foundational musical forms and stylistic elements.

Class format and activities

Weekly group lessons or small ensemble sessions. In-class technical exercises (e. g. scales, arpeggios, and slurs). Guided practice of repertoire. Music reading and rhythmic exercises. Listening and discussion of classical guitar recordings.

Entry requirements

Completion of Classical Guitar Level 1 or equivalent experience. Ability to read music in treble clef and play simple melodies and chords in first position.

What you need to know before you enrol

Regular home practice (20–30 minutes per day) is expected for steady progress. The course gradually introduces more technical and musical complexity.

A nylon-string classical guitar in good playing condition. Footstool or guitar support. Music book (specified by tutor, often including beginner solo repertoire). Notebook and pencil.
