What you will learn

Acting: Masterclass Showcase is an advanced-level course to test and deepen your skills and choices as an actor. Work alongside a peer group of advanced students and professionals, and guided by an expert tutor. An excellent course to maintain, level up and refine your acting skills, and stay ready for the professional industry. The course will finish with a showcase performance to invited guests. Performances will take place on Thursday 10 July and Friday 11 July. You will also be needed on Tues 8 July and Wed 9 July for rehearsals.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify and employ key Stanislavski and Meisner based acting techniques in exercises and improvisation
  • Employ skills to listen genuinely and be in the moment
  • Create credible, detailed and engaging characters
  • Exist in a completely immersed and creative state in an extended improvisation
  • Work collectively as a dynamic ensemble
  • Perform in a showcase to invited guests

Class format and activities

The course will utilise a range of acting exercises and games to hone your technique whilst gradually preparing you for the immersive, character-led improvisation at term end. You will work physically and take part in warm ups and games. The sessions will be practical and held in the Johnny Harris Drama Studio at Morley College.

Entry requirements

If you are new to our Masterclass programme there will be a friendly audition held to assess your suitability for the course. We are looking for people who: - have experience of acting or actor training - can work well within a team - are passionate about acting and theatre - are willing to work independently - show an understanding/respect for rehearsal room etiquette e.g. time keeping and discipline - want to progress and learn about acting in a practical way

What you need to know before you enrol

A general level of fitness, as there will be some experience of physical theatre techniques. Excellent attendance and punctuality will be required from all students.

Clothes in which you can easily move around. Bottle of water. A way of taking notes (laptop / tablet / notebook / phone)
