Printmaking and Bookbinding
…
This Photopolymer Etching course introduces you to a printmaking technique which uses UV light to transfer an image to a pre-sensitized plate. The plate is then developed in water, inked and printed in the traditional intaglio manner.
You will be introduced to the photopolymer etching technique step by step. You will learn to work in the light and well-equipped studio with specialist intaglio etching facilities. The technique is taught by demonstration, one-to-one feedback encouraging each student’s personal strengths and interests.
This course is suitable for those new to printmaking; some previous art experience would ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course. The course is also suitable for photographers wanting to explore alternative photographic processes and those who wish to re-fresh their printmaking skills of further their print experience.
The Printmaking Studio is at the Morley College-Chelsea Centre, Hortensia Road SW10 just off the Kings and Fulham Roads, in the Carlyle building, room CG05 on the ground floor.
You need to bring a selection of photographs on a USB key or other digital storage device. You also need to bring a pair of rubber gloves and an apron. There is a studio fee payable each term to the tutor which covers basic materials, except paper and plates which you pay extra for as you use them. All materials are available to buy in the studio.
