What you will learn
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Experiment with seasonal plant dyeing and printing on a range of fibres
- Identify dye plants, grow dye plant seedlings and consider dye garden design
- Explore various print and dye methods including botanical contact printing, eco printing and solar dyeing
- Test natural dye mordants and modifiers
- Investigate global dye practitioners and sustainable textiles practice
Cost
Class format and activities
Teaching is both on a group and individual basis with technical advice in a specialist studio and dye garden. The tutor will give demonstrations, presentations and guide group discussions. Learn in a friendly and supportive environment. Create your own sample book with recipes, methods and a varied range of dyed and patterned fabric swatches. Understand how you can work with the methods learned in your own workspace.
Entry requirements
Open to all levels. Suitable for beginners. Experienced learners will be encouraged to build on their experience.
What you need to know before you enrol
The Textile Studio is on the second floor of the building and we will also be using the college dye garden, a reasonable level of fitness is required. The class is situated on the second floor of the Nancy Sear Building. There is partial disabled access via a lift to the first floor and a stair lift to the second.
