What you will learn
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- • Apply figured bass at the keyboard
- • Develop knowledge of stock phrases, such as Rule of the Octave, cadences, Romanesca, Quiescenza, and more!
- • Harmonise basslines using ‘stock phrases’
- • Develop your ability to improvise with patterns
- • Internalise harmonic and contrapuntal principles at the keyboard

Class format and activities
Each student will have their own keyboard. The class will consist of demonstration, individual practice, group playing and individual playing.
Entry requirements
Students should have good knowledge of Grade 5 theory or equivalent, including some knowledge of figured bass. Students should also have the ability to play the keyboard with independent hands.
