Top 5 attractions in China

As our Chinese Language of the Month draws to a close we find out from our tutors what the must see attractions are when you visit China, so you can practice the language skills you learnt at Morley.

1. The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall is one of the most iconic symbols of China. No trip to Beijing is complete without a visit to the Great Wall. It is a magnificent architectural creation filled with history.

2. The Terracotta Army

You can see life-sized models depicting this ancient army, which had been buried underground for more than 2,000 years. It is the tomb of first Emperor of the Qin, who united China when he was alive. The models were made in order to enable him to continue to conquer in the next world.

3. The Forbidden City

The Forbidden City is an extravagant demonstration of ancient Chinese architecture and culture. Take a detailed look at its layout and design, and you will understand why is is called the ‘Forbidden City’.
Location: Beijing

4.  The River Li

The River Li is set in an area of breathtaking natural beauty with a unique river landscape. There are many small towns along the river that still retain a pre-modern character. It is a great escape from the modern big cities like Beijing and Shanghai.
Location: Guilin

5.  The Yellow Mountains

Famous for its five wonders: sun rises, seas of clouds, oddly-shaped rocks, twisted pine trees and hot springs. Some say that once you’ve visited the yellow mountain, all other mountains seem dull. There are cable cars now but the best way to enjoy the view is to try to climb the mountain yourself.
