Martin Froy (1926-)


Martin Froy, painter of figure subjects, landscapes and teacher. He was born in London, studied history at Magdalene College, Cambridge and at the Slade School of Art 1951-54. He taught engraving at the Slade 1953-55, at the Bath Academy and was Head of Painting at the Chelsea School of Art 1966-72. Froy exhibited in the inaugural exhibition of the Morley Gallery. He became Professor of Fine Art at the University of Reading in 1972 and Emeritus Professor in 1992. Froy has exhibited widely and his work is held in collections in the Tate Gallery. The murals in the Emma Cons Hall were commissioned after a competition which attracted the attention from many artists including Robert Medley, Ronald Searle, Stanley Spencer and Peter de Francia.
