Enrolling for an Essential Skills course

Who can enrol?

ESOL courses are for adults who do not speak English as a first language and want to improve their language skills for work, living in the UK or study.

EFL courses are for people in the UK for work or study and need an international qualification. 

Our English and maths courses are ideal for people who want to improve their reading, writing or maths or gain a functional English or functional maths qualifications.

Our GCSE maths and English courses are for people with a very good grounding in maths and English and want to achive a qualification in one year. 

Our ICT classes and workshops are for all levels of confidence and computing skills.

The Preparation for Work and Study courses are for those who would like to start a new career or improve their skills for higher education. 

How to enrol

To be placed in the right class you will need to attend an initial assessment and interview (see dates below). Online enrolment is not possible for Essential Skills courses, except for EFL. 

To enrol you must bring proof of eligibility on your assessment day:

  • Passport/visa
  • Receipts of benefits - written proof
  • Low income (less than £330 p/w) - recent bank statements or 3 pay slips from the last six months. 

No assessment is needed for EFL courses but we strongly recommend you take the online Cambridge test. You can enrol for an EFL course online, in person or by telephone on 020 7450 1889.

Our GCSE English and maths courses are year-long courses and the next intake will be in September. You will need to attend an initial assessment first; if you are successful you will be asked to come in for an interview. Assessment dates will be updated on the website.
