Student showcase – Maurice Moeri

Maurice Moeri is a lifelong printmaker. Maurice’s printmaking career began way back in 1957! Six decades on, Maurice says, ‘Printmaking still gives me immense pleasure and satisfaction…What drives me on is that I want to produce a really good print. And hopefully you’ve learnt something from all the other ones you’ve done – so it’s never-ending.’
After graduating from art school in Sutton, Maurice joined Barclay and Fry: Printers, Stationers and Tin Box Makers, as a trainee lithographic artist. For forty years he worked just a mile away from Morley in Waterloo, in a factory in Borough SE1 which designed and produced food labels and tins for the food and drinks industry. Over the decades, Maurice witnessed how the digital revolution upended the commercial printmaking industry.
Maurice retired 25 years ago – and joined a weekly printmaking class at Morley in Waterloo. At Morley, Maurice discovered his passion for creative etching, and has never looked back. His work takes inspiration from the world around us – landscapes, flora and forna . His style is graphic, with rich and distinctive colours.
