The Golden Ring

If you want to see a different side of life to the hustle and bustle of Moscow visit the Golden Ring!
The Golden Ring is a name for a number of old Russian towns surrounding Moscow. They are: Suzdal, Yaroslavl, Rostov, Kostroma, Vladimir, Uglich,  Sergiev Possad among others.  They are easily reached them by train or coaches from Moscow. Of course you can go on a river cruise and enjoy seeing these towns from the river. You will admire the beautiful old buildings, numerous churches and traditional Russian architecture.

Novgorod

Novgorod is one of the oldest Russian towns, whose history is closely linked with Moscow. In the past it was associated with trade and was very influential politically, economically and socially. There are many old buildings associated with Russian history: the beautiful monument dedicated to the Millennium of Russia and St. Sophia Cathedral which dates back to 11th century. You can get to Novgorod by coach or train from St Petersburg or by night train from Moscow.

Lake Baikal

If you love nature and wide spaces, than why not visit the lake Baikal? Lake Baikal in Siberia is one of the oldest and biggest lakes in the world. It is 25 million years old and 1700 metres deep, with remarkably clear water. It has a unique ecosystem with different varieties of flora and fauna. The nearest city is Irkutsk which you could reach by plane or if you are not in a hurry by Trans-Siberian express. It is an enjoyable four days journey from Moscow!

Kazan

Kazan is an old city, it is capital of Tatarstan. In the past it was an important industrial centre and a centre for ship building. Now it is a big scientific centre with many universities and Tatarstan Academy of Science. Kazan is a good example of cultural diversity with many mosques and Russian Orthodox churches side by side and with both Tatar and Russian equally spoken there.

Sochi

Are you into sports? Did you enjoy watching Russian Winter Olympic games? Did you see Sochi’s new Formula 1 track? Do you like skiing? Then come to Sochi!  It is situated in the south of Russia on the Black sea. Many new hotels and restaurants were built there in preparation for the Olympics.
